Platform Enhancements Shrink Oracle Application Data Protection and Provisioning Times to Minutes, Regardless of Size
SAN FRANCISCO — September 29, 2014 – Today at Oracle OpenWorld, Actifio, the copy data virtualization company, announced new platform enhancements to speed enterprise adoption of the cloud for distributed enterprises built on Oracle. The new features increase the speed and reduce the complexity of managing enterprise data, helping organizations move critical infrastructure to the cloud faster.
Actifio’s latest enhancements include:
- Agile Database Development – New capture and management extensions for Oracle RMAN, applications, pluggable DBs, In-memory DBs, and Oracle RAC
- Scalable Oracle Management — Advanced technology to rapidly protect, manage, and provision databases up to 100’s of Terabytes
- Cloud Extensibility– Native support for 12C Multi-tenancy, enabling next-generation Oracle apps in Public Clouds (i.e. Amazon) and more than 30 Actifio-Powered Cloud Service Providers globally
- Intelligent Log Management – Actifio LogSmartTM technology providing automated point-in-time log rolling for instant Point-in-Time provisioning
These new capabilities extend the deep integration of Oracle and Actifio’s data virtualization platform for superior database management including drastic reduction in unnecessary copies of data that cost businesses valuable time and resources. New Actifio automation technologies have been benchmarked provisioning read/write 20TB, Oracle 12c database clones directly to 20 individual developers in fewer than 10 minutes, without consuming any incremental storage. Additionally, the application data was easily migrated directly into the public cloud – all from a single Actifio service-level agreement (SLA).
“Together, Oracle and Actifio provide the world’s best platform for enterprise application data management – enabling IT to be more customer-centric and agile in how they adapt and win in today’s market.” said Ash Ashutosh, Founder and CEO, Actifio. “Our next big innovation for enterprises built on Oracle’s powerful application suite allows IT to respond faster to the business. With Actifio’s self-service, SLA-based management services for faster dev/test, to our powerful cloud data migration technologies – Actifio’s patented data virtualization platform is now certified and integrated with Oracle’s leading platforms including Oracle Database 12c, the Oracle eBusiness Suite, the Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic, Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris.”
By deploying Actifio, Oracle customers have more robust capabilities within their private / hybrid cloud environments. The current database management approach in Oracle environments involves complex, expensive infrastructure silos built with separate point tools for backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, test and development, analytics, compliance or other applications. This results in businesses storing and managing up to 120 copies of databases, increasing costs and operational complexity and ultimately slowing development and test cycles.
Through virtualization, Actifio allows Oracle customers to eliminate those multiple data silos and point tools while improving SLAs, time-to-data-use, and reducing costs and risk.
Actifio’s workflow functionality combined with roles-based self-service allows database administrators (DBAs) and developers to schedule and automate the complete data flow, without infrastructure delays. RESTful APIs provides integration with a wide-variety of ISVs, for example masking software to protect sensitive data.
“Businesses are looking for any competitive advantage they can find, and increasingly, making existing tools more efficient while eliminating investments in expensive hardware,” said Rakesh Patel, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Global Sales at UST. “With Actifio, we’re able to reduce the cost of our storage, protection and data access services even as we enhance our customers’ experience. By focusing on efficiency, our customers have a distinct competitive advantage.”
As an Oracle Platinum Partner, Actifio supports wide range of Oracle database versions including Oracle Database 12c, at both the container and pluggable database levels, and fully supports in-memory databases, Oracle RAC, Oracle Exadata, and Oracle Exastack. Enterprises can now easily manage all their Oracle eBusiness Suite application data utilizing Actifio’s patented application-centric, SLA-driven data virtualization platform – at any scale from gigabytes to petabytes – using any on/off premise or cloud-based infrastructure.
“Actifio’s copy data virtualization is a good example of a technology that bridges newer agile and devops practices with existing infrastructure, applications and process,’ said 451 Research Senior Analyst Jay Lyman. ‘By encompassing application development, testing, data management and protection, Actifio’s software can help organizations reap the benefits of cloud computing and Oracle software for faster, more automated workflows that still address data concerns.”
Actifio now counts more than 500 enterprise users across customers in 36 counties, managing more than one exabyte of essential enterprise production data –a majority who use Actifio as a key element within their Software-Defined Data Center strategy. Dozens of Cloud Service Provider partners now have Actifio-powered copy data virtualization offerings, delivering public and hybrid cloud copy data management services to enterprise customers around the world.
