Oracle’s E-Business Suite (also known as Applications/Apps or EB-Suite/EBS) consists of a collection of enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and supply-chain management (SCM) computer applications either developed or acquired by Oracle. The software utilizes Oracle’s core Oracle relational database management system technology.

Traditional Oracle Data Management Challenges

Large Backup Window

Most enterprise backup products perform weekly full and daily Incremental backups

Large RPO

Large backup windows lead to large RPOs which often exceed 24 hours

Large RTO

Traditional data recoveries lead to large RTOs because data has to be converted from custom backup format to native Oracle format

Slow & Expensive DB Cloning

Too much time and storage is consumed by physical clones used for Dev, Test, UAT, Analytics

Expensive Data Retention

Retaining information in proprietary format in dedup appliances or tapes makes it expensive and hard to access data for compliance

No Effective Cloud Leverage

Traditional backup formats make it too complex, slow, and cumbersome to leverage on-demand cloud data warehouse services

Storage Savings Thru the Roof, Rapid Restores

“As a CSC database services manager, I run a large database contract for the US Air Force. We use Actifio to protect mission critical data. We made this migration from legacy tape storage vendor. Due to lengthy regulatory retention requirements, full daily backups had to be maintained on tape over a long period. Actifio allowed us to drastically minimize the amount of backup storage with it’s RMAN incremental forever approach, the full copy of the database is stored a single time, instead of hundreds of times that we were storing to tape. Additionally, a 500G Oracle RMAN restore from tape would take approximately 2.5 hours. Actifio can mount a copy of the database that can be started up immediately in under 30 seconds. This allows for near immediate production database recovery in catastrophic events. We are currently engineering a solution to utilize Actifio SKY in a private cloud solution.”

Key Features: Backup & Disaster Recovery

Fast Recovery

Users can perform instant recoveries and access a multi TB Oracle database in just minutes.

Zero Down Time

Actifio Sky supports Oracle ASM environments and allows automated migration of fail-over production databases from Actifio storage to production storage with zero down time.

Fast Backups

After the first full backup, all backups are incremental forever. Actifio Sky uses Oracle RMAN APIs for application consistent backups, and users can tune Actifio Sky to optimize backups to leverage multiple RMAN channels or to stream from multiple nodes simultaneously in Oracle RAC clusters.

Oracle Data Guard Integration

For environments that use Oracle Data Guard, users can backup Oracle database from Primary database or Standby database.

Replicate to Any Cloud

Set SLAs to replicate from Actifio Sky in one location to Sky in another data center or public cloud like Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure, IBM, or any MSP. Users can then do instant low RTO DR and DR testing at the remote site. DR testing does not impact production or continuing backup and replication.

Flexible RPO

Users can set SLAs to replicate incremental backups anywhere between 1 hour to 24 hours. For lower than 1 hour RPOs, archive log backups can be backed up and replicated every 15 minutes.

Key Feature: Database Cloning for Oracle EBS

Space Efficient

Virtual copies do not take any extra storage space. For example: 20 users/projects can create 20 virtual copies of a 5 TB database without consuming any extra storage. Incremental extra storage is only required to store changes corresponding to modifications done to a virtual database clone.

Instant Copies

No matter the size of database, whether 1TB, 50TB or more, users can provision multiple virtual database clones within minutes.

High Performance

Actifio Sky can easily handle 130,000 IOPs from multiple virtual Oracle database clones.

Role-Based Access Control

Administrators can control WHO can access WHAT databases on WHICH servers, thus ensuring IT Ops has sufficient controls.

Self Service

Users can use their domain user accounts to login to Actifio Sky and provision virtual database clones in a self service manner.

Data Masking Integration

Actifio enables automated data masking by enabling Actifio admins to specify any 3rd party data masking server, script and schedule. This ensures that data is masked automatically and testers get access to ONLY masked copies.

Automated & Efficient Data Refresh

Actifio Sky ingests only changed blocks from production to refresh virtual database clones. Thus users can refresh ad-hoc or based on schedule to work on the most recent virtual copy of production Oracle database.

Testers can bookmark a cloned database at a specific point in time and branch out to a different data version. This is especially useful in creating DB schema changes and then promoting those changes to other test environments.

Key Feature: Data Retention for Oracle EBS

SLA Driven Retention

Users can set flexible retention SLAs to store backups for days, weeks, months, years, or even decades.

Flexible Retention Location

Users can specify backup data to be stored in multiple locations such as disk with its software deduplication, or S3 API compliant object storage on-premises or in cloud with software compression

Instant Access

Whether backup images are days old or decades old, users can mount backup images from object storage for near-instant data access
