Ask digital storage aficionados what are the best solutions for large data storage and they will say HP’s StorageWorks. And when you say StorageWorks, the first name that comes to mind is that of Ash Ashutosh who is the Chief Technologist at HP. Presently, Ashutosh is acting as the founder CEO of Actifio. The company is trying to convince big businesses that storing too many copies of data cost them money, time and resources. By making them store all their data in one single ‘golden’ copy, Actifio is revolutionising the data storage industry. Ashutosh has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters degree in Computer Science from the Penn State University. After working at companies like LSI and Intergraph as an architect and engineer, Ashutosh joined StorageNetworks, the industry’s first Storage Service Provider as a Senior Vice President. Later he founded Serano Systems, a Fibre Channel controller solutions provider which he has sold to Vitesse Semiconductor. His next venture was the founding of AppIQ, a market leader in Storage Resource Management (SRM) solutions, which was acquired by HP in 2005 thereby making Ashutosh the Vice President and Chief Technologist of HP Storage. Ashutosh has been instrumental in developing several major storage industry initiatives like iSCSI and storage visualisation. He has also authored numerous storage industry standards. Before founding Actifio, Ashutosh has been a partner with Greylock Partners where he focused on making investments in enterprise IT companies.
